Across the street, southward, the corner of Apród út and Döbrentei út is graced with the outside terrace of the Tabáni Terasz, Average entrée is 2,000-2,500 HUF. The poet, historical writer and classical translator, Virag Benedek, once lived in the house that now bears his name, the Virag Benedek House. This protected historical site, built in the last half of the 1700s is now the home of this first-class sörözõ, or pub, that tries to duplicate the spirit of the old world Tabán district of Buda (white plas-tered two-story houses fronting narrow cobblestone streets, hiding lovely enclosed garden terrace patio areas). Originally built as an inn, it contains four eateries. The outdoor terrace commands a view of the lower Castle District, invisible from the Aranyszarva. Here they serve Hungarian or international cuisine, coffee and cakes. The 250-year-old inner café has an old world ambience, leading you into the garden terrace under a 200-year-old walnut tree. There you can munch on cold crisp salads and grilled meats, then go down to the wine cellar, where over 40 varieties of Hungarian wines are complemented by cheese and salami platters with fresh bread.
